Yesterday was composed mostly of flying, running through airports, flying, people watching, flying, reading, and flying (did I mention flying?). I figured out that I was in the air for about 11 hours yesterday. My back is sore today. There were some cool parts to the trip though. Flying at 34,000 feet somewhere over North Dakota I looked out my window and let out a muffled yelp, not more than 200 yards from our plane was a jumbo-mic-jumbo jet! It was so close I think I could make out the heads of people through its windows. After a few minutes of flying side by side it drifted off towards the south, probably heading to Denver or something; I just never realized passenger jets flew that close to each other. Another happy part to the trip was that my baggage arrived safely; I was convinced that it was going to end up in some warm place like Morocco or Fiji, and then like it so much there that it wouldn't ever return to me.
The guys I am staying with here are pretty cool, and Juneau itself is pretty nice (gorgeous actually), but I am definitely ready to move on to Sitka. I am sitting right now in an Asheville-esk coffee shop called the Heritage Coffee Company. They have free WiFi, good coffee, and solid service (as well as sweet music); I recommend it to anyone that has time to kill in Juneau. Also, the mountains here are breathtaking, the pictures I have taken do not do them justice. They rise straight up out of the water 5,000 feet and have huge rock faces and summits speckled with evergreens and covered in snow and ice. Awesome.
I leave for Sitka on the ferry in the morning, at 8:00. I hope its not raining!

Thomas, gald you've made there safe. I heard about your landing at Ketchikan, heard there was a lot of fog and it was a dangerous landing. It will be the least of your worries and, remember, you're safer in a plane than a car. Well, anyway, Mom was going to call you at 9 o'clock when I reminded her that you were 5 hours behind us. I told her to call you at 12:30. You're up there, anyway, and you'll stay up there for another 8 months. Take lots of photos and post them.

thanks philip! yeah, the plane didn't feel all that safe, especially when we flew right under another plane in mid air. but you're right, it was definitely safer than driving to alaska! i miss you and hope that you have a good rest of the week! talk to you soon!
ReplyDeleteDude did you take an pictures of the plane next to you? That sounds sweet, how is the camera treating you anyways? Did you talk to any old people while flying? Every time I fly I get put next to old people
ReplyDeletenaw, young people actually, but i wish they had been old people. old people are interesting and not consumed with themselves. the camera is awesome, though i didn't get to take a pic of the other plane. how was ruf? sorry i got off the phone so quickly today, i'll make it up to you, i promise!
ReplyDeleteIt's straight dude, RUF was pretty good, we filled up all the seats, so there was a lot of people there, Scroggs gave a good talk, so it was all good. We did miss you up there giving announcements, James is trying to take your place though man.
ReplyDeleteBy the way HEY PP!!!!
dude, i will let james take my place with all my heart. i would rather sit in the back and watch the action anyhoo. there is less pressure that way.
ReplyDeleteWell, here's one from your mom! I love the pics and want you to continually send them. Philip is begging for his own email so he can write you personally, so we'll see. I choke every time I read all this and see the pics. But you seem to be doing great and the Lord is really answering the prayers. Update us on your new friends, home and town. love you so,
ReplyDeleteMom

ReplyDeleteHeyy Mrs. Gibsonn! You should let PP get an e-mail, hope things are going well in Asheville too
